An iPhone that won't turn on usually still has every photo on it. The catch: the storage is encrypted and locked to that phone's own board, so the only way to the data is to get the phone working again. That is board repair, and it is what our bench does every day.

Try this once before you send it
- Force restart: press and release volume up, press and release volume down, then hold the side button until you see the Apple logo (up to 30 seconds).
- Charge it for 30 minutes with a different cable and plug, then try again.
- If it was wet, skip both steps. Switch it off and send it to us straight away.
If it still shows nothing, stop there. Repeated charging or restoring it in iTunes or Finder can make things worse; a restore erases the phone.
Why recovery software can't help a dead iPhone
Apps that promise to recover iPhone photos need the phone to switch on and trust a computer. A dead iPhone does neither. And because every iPhone encrypts its storage with keys held in its own processor, the memory chip can't simply be removed and read somewhere else.
So the route to the data is through the board: find the failed component, replace it, power the phone up, and copy everything off.

The initial assessment is always free. If a separate in-depth diagnostic is needed, we quote it first and it is only payable if you approve it. If we then can't recover the files you told us matter, there is no recovery fee and we return your device; you pay only the return postage.
Questions
My iPhone won't turn on. Are my photos gone?
Usually not. It is often a power fault on the board. Don't keep charging it and don't restore it from a computer, which erases it.
Will you need my passcode?
Yes, once the phone powers on, to copy the data off. You give it to us only when we ask, and the phone is not used for anything else.
My photos might be in iCloud. Should I check first?
Yes. Sign in at icloud.com on another device. If everything is there, you may not need us at all.
Will the iPhone work afterwards?
Often, yes, but our goal is the data. If a lasting repair is worth doing, we quote it separately.
Can you recover from an iPhone that was restored or reset?
No. A reset erases the encryption keys, so the old data cannot be read. That is why it matters not to restore a dead phone.
